Shopping on Craigslist seems harmless, but killings really do happen. It is not a myth, not made up for a movie, it is true. Imagine, going to see a piece of furniture and being murdered. It has happened before. A women and her husband from Pennsylvania were charged with the slaying of a man back in November, but turns out they have killed far more than just one man. From prison, nineteen year old Miranda Barbour, told the newspaper that in the past six years she has taken part in at least twenty-two killings which took place in California, North Carolina, Alaska, and Texas. "When I hit 22, I stopped counting," the young girl said during her phone interview. She also said that if she were given a map she could point out where those bodies could be found. Sunbury Police Chief Steve Mazzeo has said the proper protocol has been taken to find the proper leads. The FBI has said they will be involved in any way needed. Barbour continued to tell the newspaper that she participated in her first killing at the young age of thirteen. Soon after she joined a satanic cult. Barbour has encountered over thirty men on Craigslist, selling her body and then with her husband killing those men. Troy LaFerrara was the first body they found in November 2013, he was stabbed twenty times before dying. Miranda Barbour says, "If I were to be released, I would do this again," because she only killed the "bad guys". This story seems like a movie one would watch on Lifetime, but turns out these things do not only happen in movies. It is truly horrific.

I cannot fathom the level of absurd material I have read on the internet, but this ranks the highest in my book! How can one even begin to imagine the terror on the face of the innocent people, merely wanting to purchase a stinking couch. It was not worth the cost of their lives. People this destructive and gruesome should not belong in the world. Other than the utterly terrifying news, super job on the blog, Maria!
ReplyDeleteI cannot begin to imagine the fear and surprise of the people who merely wanted to purchase a couch. This case proves that people may not be who they say they are on the internet. People must be EXTRA cautious when dealing with strangers. Barbour is a sick killer who does not even regret her actions. Besides the horrifying topic, incredible writing Maria.
ReplyDeleteHuge amount of crazy people on the web! People should be careful in who they meet with and what they will do. Many relationships fail and do not last because the two people meet online and one person in the relationship ends up being a psycho. This girl should be in prison for life where she cannot harm anyone else. This blog was fabulous Maria, but there is one grammar mistake I caught. I believe "women" in the fourth sentence should be "woman". Other than that, fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of buying my first car off craigslist... the offer seemed pretty irresistible. Was it her?! I hope not. All jokes aside, this type of killing was unheard of and comes as a complete surprise considering craigslist has been known for user-to-user altercations, but not too many murders. A sick and twisted teenager like such deserves to be put away for life. Excellent work, Maria!
ReplyDeleteIt feels nearly impossible for a nineteen year old girl to kill over twenty people and admitting she will go back to killing them after she is let out of jail. Craigslist has been a somewhat sneaky kind of source for those looking for trouble, and clear they have found the method of doing so. Outstanding job on explaining the topic Maira!
ReplyDeleteWow! Reading such a gruesome and horrific story gives me the chills. It brings the thought and ponder upon myself as to how wrong somebody's life could have gone to shamelessly commit multiple murders and confess the act without any remorse. Women such as Barbour are those to be extremely cautious of because there is more than meets the eye and looks can be deceiving. Strangers' words and appearance on the internet are all that are perceived, however in real life their actions may have much more to say.
